What Our Clients Think

Garden Studios: Inspirational Workspaces for Professions and Hobbies

A Garden Studio promises a quiet retreat away from distractions and drama that get in the way of the creative flow. Tailor-made to suit your profession, our studios are hand-crafted to provide the ideal workspace for inspiration to take place. Whether designed to harbour your hobbies or built as a home for your career, our garden studios take every aspect into consideration to make the space perfect for you and your craft. From ensuring you have the perfect level of natural light to adequate soundproofing to keep the music in and the outside noise out, we take your unique brief and turn it into an individual environment for your creativity to take root.

Studios come in all shapes and forms. That’s why we keep the brief open and design all our Garden Studios bespoke to your specific needs and requirements. Everything affects the design and the build, the available garden space, the purpose for the studio, the aesthetic that you’re after. We work together to design and handcraft the perfect home for your craft. Feel free to see some of the Garden Studios we’ve created in our portfolio.

A comfortable haven for your creative exploits

All our garden builds are fully insulated so you can work comfortably all year around. Our custom-made builds are easy to warm during the winter months and can also cut back on the energy you would be otherwise spending warming up your house. Warming up just one room is cheaper after all.

Our designs come with plenty of options to make your studio fit-for-purpose. All our builds are fully wired up and ready for business the moment the build is complete.

Creating a retreat for your talent to flourish

Garden studios deliver that perfect getaway from the noise and distractions that get in the way of the creative flow. Separate from the house and the potential hubbub within, studios provide a quiet, creative space that helps maintain the work/life split that’s all important for those who work from home. Whether the purpose of the studio is for a hobby or profession, the choice of escapism works both ways.

Our Garden Studios also come with an option to be sound-proofed. Ideal for musicians, these sound-proofed studios have the option to be adapted as recording studios as well as practice rooms. A peaceful, quiet workspace also appeals to many professions, especially if outside noise is an issue.

Collaboratively designed to meet your needs

We take the time to really understand your individual brief as every studio we make is different just as every artist is different. We can create bespoke workshops for a range of art forms, from painting to ceramics and crafting. Take advantage of our bespoke design service and maximise the natural light that enters the building via additional windows. Whether you’re a painter, sculptor, musician, or designer, your studio will be a perfect fit for your profession and craft.

Why Choose Miniature Manors

Experienced and talented craftsmen and designers
Our team of skilled professionals have been operating in the heart of Sussex since 2008. Our team consists of experienced professionals, including our inhouse architectural technician who overlooks our planning applications. We offer a turnkey service where everything is handled under one roof.

Every inch hand-crafted
Unlike other garden studio suppliers, we do not offer flat pack style garden rooms and steer well clear of plastic interiors. For us, changing the size or colour of a mass-produced structure is simply not bespoke. Our carpenters work hard to finish every piece by hand. We’re dedicated to the craft, so much so we run apprentice carpentry schemes every year.

Individual, sustainable designs
We do our best to cater to your expectations and give various size, material, window and door options for every client. All of our garden studios are made with sustainable materials and are finished to the highest specifications to prolong the life of your building. Because of this, we deliver a high-quality product at a competitive price.

Your Perfect Garden Studio in Three Easy Steps:

Consultation

After your enquiry, a member of our team will contact you to discuss your initial garden studio plans in more detail. We always try to book a site-visit with our clients in order to have a detailed discussion about their requirements. A member of our knowledgeable team will bring material samples and images of our previous builds. This enables you to choose the finish on our Garden Studio, and allows us to create a design which is truly unique for you.

Design

After completing a survey of the space you want to use for you Garden Studio, our team will then create a CAD design which encapsulates your ideas. We will send this to you with a list of proposed specifications for the build. We welcome any feedback and will keep making adjustments until you are 100% happy with the design and cost. When you are happy to proceed with your own Miniature Manor, we will schedule your build into our diary.

Build

Depending on the size of your garden studio, it usually takes two – four weeks for our team to erect and decorate your structure. The majority of the work will take place on site in your garden, although there will be days when they build part of the structure at our workshop in Sussex. Once your garden studio is complete we will advise how best to look after the structure to ensure longevity.

Planning Applications & Building Regulations for your Garden Studio

In the event that planning is required, our architectural design team can take over this process and at present, have a 100% success rate at achieving permission. We charge a separate fee for this work which also covers the submission fee to your local council.

We commonly apply for planning permission or work to building regulations for the following reasons:

  • The client lives in a maisonette
  • The structure is to sit in the grounds of a Grade I or II listed building
  • The design requires a ceiling height that is more than 2.5 metres
  • The garden room will be used commercially or as liveable accommodation

Where building regulations or planning permission conditions are required, we will adapt the specifications of our build for the all-important sign off.

You can learn more about the planning rules for Garden Studios via the Planning Portal Mini Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need planning permission for my Garden Studio?

Generally speaking, you don’t need planning permission. We design and build our Garden Studios so they are covered under your permitted development rights. Some additional extras will need planning permission. There are more reasons where planning permission will be needed, but we can address any concerns you have.

Our team regularly works with planning officers and we have our own planning consultant that we direct inquiries towards. Planning regulations can sometimes be very conflicting so we can help answer any planning permission questions you may have.

Do you have a showroom?

Yes, we have a showroom where an example of a Garden Studio is on display. Visits to our showroom are by appointment only. You can arrange a visit here or by calling on 01403 610619.

How big can a garden studio be before I need planning permission?

This depends on how much outdoor space you have at your property. A build in your garden can’t exceed over 50% of the space you have available – going over will require planning permission. There are also external height restrictions. The external height cannot be any higher than 2.5 metres when 2 metres off the boundary. A pitched roof will also have a height limit of 4 metres when it is built 2 metres from the boundary.

You can find out more about the planning regulations for outdoor builds on the online planning portal here.

Do you have a price list?

As all of our garden rooms are individually designed, it is hard for us to present a list of prices. However, if you complete our Project Planner we will email across an estimate.

For any more questions, take a look at our FAQs page. If any of your questions are still unanswered, get in touch and we can help answer your queries.
