Garden office or garden gym? Why not have both under one roof! This multi-functional garden room in Crowborough has purposely been designed as an L-shape to incorporate both options. The main room is used as a fitness studio, whilst the side section of the structure takes the form of a small home office.

Our design team were asked to find a way of fitting a tall cable machine into the room without the need to go over the 2.5 metre height that meets permitted development rules. We therefore created a cut out section of the ceiling that allowed the gym equipment to fit perfectly into the building. This enabled the build to go ahead without the need for planning.

Bespoke designs like this show how a garden room can be multi-functional. Home gyms have become an increasingly popular use for garden studio owners and it’s easy to see why. A fitness studio in the garden will enable you to work out around the clock, offer privacy and cut out commuting times. As our customer only works from home on occasion, our design offered the bonus of having a small office away from the main house.
