Garden rooms have become increasingly popular as versatile spaces for home offices, gyms, or simply relaxation. As environmental consciousness grows, there’s a rising demand for eco-friendly options. At Miniature Manors we can create a sustainable garden room that minimises its environmental impact while providing a comfortable and functional space.
The choice of materials is paramount in constructing an eco-friendly garden room. We offer these sustainable options:
• Timber: A classic and renewable resource, timber offers excellent insulation properties. The recycling of timber waste is also much easier, with our waste carrier separating it for recycling purposes. All our garden rooms are timber framed, and we also off a wide selection of timber claddings. This Garden Room with Side Shed is a lovely example of Cedar cladding.
• Recycled Materials: We try to incorporate recycled materials where we can, whether that be our flooring, decking, or cladding. One product we use is Millboard, you can read their sustainability statement here.
• Cladding: We offer a wide selection of cladding options, including natural and man-made. Products such as James Hardie Plank are very hardwearing, meaning they won’t need maintenance or replacing to stay looking as good as they do on the first day.
• Insulation: We use Actis Hybris insulation as standard, which is the only reflective insulation in Europe to earn international Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze Certification, which you can read more on here.
• Low-VOC Paints and Finishes: We can provide paints and finishes with low or no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) to improve indoor air quality.
• Sustainable Flooring: A range of our flooring is manufactured from recycled woods and plastics.

An eco-friendly garden room should be energy efficient. Here are some key considerations we look at when building an eco-friendly garden room:
• Insulation: Proper insulation is crucial for maintaining a comfortable temperature year-round and reducing energy consumption. All our garden rooms at miniature manors are insulated for year-round use. We also off insulation upgrades to further improve the insulation of the building.
• Glazing: All our windows come double glazed as standard, and we are able to upgrade the glazing if you so wish. Energy-efficient glazing with low-E coatings to reduce heat loss in winter and solar gain in summer are available. Triple-glazed windows can offer even better insulation.
• Ventilation: We ensure that all our projects have adequate ventilation to maintain indoor air quality without excessive energy use. You may also like to consider additional ventilation options, such as large bi-fold doors, or openable windows seen on this Garden Granny Annex.
• Heating and Cooling: As standard our garden rooms use panel heaters, but we also off underfloor heating. Additionally we can advise on the position of your garden room to maximise the natural shade and cooling of your garden.
• Lighting: Maximise natural light by choosing large windows and doors. We also offer energy efficient lighting solutions.

To make your garden room truly sustainable, we offer the following renewable energy sources:
• Solar Panels: Install solar panels on the roof to generate electricity for your garden room. Excess energy can be fed back into the grid or stored in batteries. You can read more through this article: Will Solar Panels Power My Garden Room? A Complete Guide.
• Green Roofs: A green roof can help insulate your garden room, reduce stormwater runoff, and provide additional habitat for wildlife. A lovely example can be seen on this Garden Room Gym.
We pay attention to sustainable practices during the construction of each Garden Room:
• Waste Management: We try to minimise the amount of waste sent to landfills. We do this by recycling and reusing materials whenever possible.
• Local Sourcing: We always try to prioritise materials from local suppliers to reduce transportation emissions.

By carefully selecting materials, incorporating energy-efficient features, and adopting sustainable practices, we can create an eco-friendly garden room that not only benefits the environment but also provides a healthy and comfortable space for you to enjoy.
